1941 - 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI - The brigade commander (Brigadier Smyth), who had been appointed to command a brigade over­seas, came to say good-bye to the Regiment. He spoke to all officers and non-commissioned officers and told them that the brigade had been chosen for conversion to an airlanding brigade in an airborne division. This division was to be commanded by Major-General F. A. M. Browning and the airlanding brigade by Brigadier G. F. Hopkinson, who had raised and commanded the G.H.Q. Reconnaissance Unit (Phantom).
 
1944 - The 1st Bucks Battalion moved to BRUSSELS
Here they remained until March 1945 when  the battalion became one of the ' T ' Force Units of 21 Army Group.

A very successful Torchlight Tattoo in which the Buglers and the 2nd Divisional Band took part, was carried out in the Regimental Area.
On this and following dates Medical Inspections revealed that re-inoculations were advisable for 674 all ranks.
The reasons in favour of it were explained on parade, with the result that of 674, all were done, except 13 who refused, i.e. of in A Coy 106 none refused; in B Coy of 106 three refused; C Coy of 119 five refused; in D coy of 130 none refused; and in Headquarters Coy of 213 five refused.

1812 – Light Division – made a movement to its left in consequence of the united forces of Soult and Joseph Bounaparte  being in full march from Albacote upon Madrid.(Peninsula).
 
1914 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI  - Battle of LANGEMARCK.(First Battle of YPRES).
At Langemarck on October 21st, the 52nd was on the left of the attacking line which made any progress, and, in spite of severe enfilade fire and heavy casualties, made an advance of some depth, and for forty-eight hours held the position against counter-attacks. Steady rifle and machine-gun fire, and careful use of ammunition, accounted in one night for over seven hundred Germans, found dead in front of the trenches next morning.
5 Officers and 61 men killed. 5 Officers and 143 men Wounded. 3 Men Missing.
Total Casualties = 217.

The brigade (i.e inter Regimental) Stage of the 2nd Division Fire Unit Commanders and Marksmens Competition was fired, with the result that in the Total (Lewis Gun and other Competitions the Regiment was 2nd (1002 Points) to 17th Royal Fusiliers (1090 Points); 24th Royal Fusiliers were Third with 928 Points and 2nd Highland Light Infantry fourth with 694 Points.
During the period 9-31 except as shown the Regiment carried out training and route marching, principally of the elementary kind, by not larger units than companies except on 9th when a Regimental Outpost Exercise was carried out, and on 22nd when a Brigade Attack Practice took place.
Regimental Classes of Instruction were kept working and Bombers, Lewis Gunners, Stretcher Bearers and Signallers brought up to strength and kept in practice.
2/Lt J W BENNETT joined and was posted to C Coy.
90th Reinforcement, 33 Rank and File joined.

Major General H R DAVIES CB Commanding 11th Division erected a memorial (inscribed as below) on the site of the graves of a number of all ranks of the regiment who were killed in the Attack made on Oct 21st 1914 at (Map Reference-POELACPELLE Sheet) U.30.d.40.55. on the St JULIEN – POELCAPELLE ROAD close to the junction of the German LANGEMARCK – CHELUDT Line of Trenches with the main road, 10 yards from the trench and 15 yards from the Road, North of the Junction. (The drawing by Maj Gen Davies is preserved with the Regimental Office Copy of this Diary). “In Memory of 5 Officers 70 NCOs and Men 52nd Light Infantry, Killed in Action 21-23 Oct 1914, some of whom are buried near this spot.”

The Regiment marched from BETHUNE to MARLES-LES-MINES to be billeted there.
The billets on arrival were found to be very bad, and materials for repair did not appear to be obtainable in any appreciable quantity.
2/Lt G W SHAW joined for duty on first appointment and was posted to B Coy.
 
1917–1/1st Buckinghamshire Battalion –  THE LINE V26a63 To D2b45.
Fairly Quiet Day. Very Wet.
Received notice at 4pm that we would be relieved during evening by 1/4 GLOSTERS on Left & 1/6 GLOSTERS on Right who were to attack in the morning.
The Right relieved by 11pm.
Great difficulty experienced in getting 4th GLOS (on Left) to their forming up positions owing to extreme darkness, & scarcity of guides who knew their way over country devoid of landmarks or tracks.
They did eventually get there about 3.30am.
Left an outpost Coy consisting of 2 platoons B Coy & 2 platoons C Coy in the Line with orders to withdraw at Zero.
Owing to left platoon not receiving this order as to withdrawal they did not get away until several hours after Zero.
On relief Battn (less outpost Coy who rejoined later) concentrated in CIVILISATION & KULTOR FARMS area becoming Divl Reserve.

Very cold & frequent heavy showers.
Received notice at 1.30pm to be ready to go up to line starting at 3pm!
This was confirmed about 3.30pm
Eventually left in busses at 5.30pm to take over front line from 6th & 7th R WARWICKS. Busses put us down in WIELTJE.
Guides met platoons at ARTILLERY HO (Northernmost house in ST JULIEN).
Relief which was complicated by extreme darkness of night & the very bad going, completed by about 1.30am.

1928 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI – (India) – Consequent  upon the amendment to Infantry Training Vol 1, 1926, dropping the use of the word “Attention” for Light Infantry, a new drill procedure was issued dealing with this subject and provisional to a definite ruling being arrived at in conjunction with the Officers Commanding the 43rd and Depot.
