Almost immediately on the outbreak of war on August 4th, 1914, it became obvious that not only would the Territorial Battalions be needed for something more than home defence but that new battalions would have to be raised. The total number of battalions of the Regiment during the war, including the second and third-line Territorial, is as follows
At Home.--3rd (Reserve), 3/4th and 3/1st Bucks, these two becoming subsequently 4th Reserve, 9th (Service), subsequently 36th Training Reserve, and 10th.
THE GARRISON BATTALIONS. Of the two Garrison Battalions, the first served in India, and the second latterly known as the 11th (Garrison) Battalion, in France and on the Rhine.
