1808 - 1st Bn. 43rd landed at Corunna. 1915 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI -Moved to billets at ANNEQUIN and CAMBRIN. 9am. Moved to billets at ANNEQUIN and CAMBRIN, large fatigue parties were found every day for work in the trenches. Very wet. 1915– 1/1st Buckinghamshire Battalion – HEBUTERNE Battalion in Trenches. Bombardment of enemy’s Trenches by our guns, Field and Howitzer at 3.10pm – little reply from enemy. During this period (24th – 29th) a new system of bombing attacks was practised by all companies and the usual drills and exercises performed. The weather was exceedingly bad, most of the ground being under water. In consequence work was greatly interfered with. Small parties of reinforcement arrived making a total of 20 in all (20th, 23rd & 27th) 1915– 1/1st Buckinghamshire Battalion – HEBUTERNE Battalion relieved 6/GLOSTERS at 12.30pm. Working Parties. 1941 - 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI - The brigade commander (Brigadier Smyth), who had been appointed to command a brigade overseas, came to say good-bye to the Regiment. He spoke to all officers and non-commissioned officers and told them that the brigade had been chosen for conversion to an airlanding brigade in an airborne division. This division was to be commanded by Major-General F. A. M. Browning and the airlanding brigade by Brigadier G. F. Hopkinson, who had raised and commanded the G.H.Q. Reconnaissance Unit (Phantom). 1944 - The 1st Bucks Battalion moved to BRUSSELS Here they remained until March 1945 when the battalion became one of the ' T ' Force Units of 21 Army Group. 1807 - 43rd left Copenhagen for England 1915 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI -CAMBRIN Our front line was shelled by heavy artillery and B Company suffered somewhat. 1915– 1/1st Buckinghamshire Battalion – HEBUTERNE Battalion in Trenches. Fog lasted till 12noon, found very useful for Wiring Parties in the morning, Germans doing the same, but we had to finish our work before opening fire on them. Coy 10/R IRISH RIFLES completed their individual instruction at 5pm. A & C Coys relieved D & B Coys. On this day 14th OCTOBER
1914 - 8th Bn Oxf & Bucks LI formed at Oxford and proceeded to Codford St' Mary' 1915 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI -CAMBRIN The Regiment moved up to the front line and relieved the 1/Queens in Y4 Section. Disposition:- Right Front – B Company next 46th Division. Left Front – D Company next 2/HLI. In Support – A & C companies. There was a great deal of work to be done in the Front Line as is always the case after an attack. The trenches had been badly knocked about and a lot of salvage and general cleaning up was necessary. Also a new sap (Guildford Trench) was in course of construction. This sap ran in the direction of the German line and from the end of efforts were made to digout and join up with the Guards Division which was now holding a portion of HOHENZOLLERN REDOUBT. A party of C Company had started making the Guildford Trench on the night 13/14 Lt Ridout and Lt Mills having been wounded in this fatigue. Strong fatigue parties were at work every night on this trench and its extension which was ultimately connected with the Guards Division. A party of A & B companies were at work all this night doing fresh wiring on both sides of the new sap and during early morning of October 15 a German Officer and one German Private walked into this party and were taken prisoners. 1915– 1/1st Buckinghamshire Battalion – HEBUTERNE Battalion in Trenches. Quiet Day. Fog up till 7.30am. 1955 – 1st Bn Oxf & Bucks LI (43rd & 52nd) - Bicentenary Parade in commemoration of the raising of the 52nd Light Infantry. Old Colours of the 52nd trooped. 1811 - 52nd marched from Casillas de Flores to Robledo 1915 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI -CAMBRIN Hohenzollern Redoubt attacked by the 46th Division with the aid of gas. The attack was not wholly successful. The 5th Infantry Brigade assisted by making a bomb attack a German Communication Trench. This attack did not make much headway and Lt Ramsay who had been attached to the 5th Brigade Grenade Company was killed. 1 Officer, 2 NCO’s and 24 men of the 52nd took part in this attack. Casualties (10th –13th):Killed 2Lt Ramsay and 2 men.Wounded =Lt Ridout, Lt Mills and 2 men. 1915– 1/1st Buckinghamshire Battalion – HEBUTERNE Battalion in Trenches. Quiet Day. At 4pm our guns shelled Enemy’s trenches and GOMMECOURT WOOD after we had tried for 10 minutes to draw enemy with rifle fire. 16 French aeroplanes went over toward ACHIET to drop bombs at 3.55pm. 1810 - At Arriuda (Portugal), the Light Division on piquet work; this went on for 5 weeks, until eventually the French retired into winter quarters. 1915 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI -CAMBRIN The Regiment rejoined the 5th Infantry Brigade and moved to CAMBRIN and took over 2nd Line trenches in rear of zone from 2/Yorks Regt at 5pm in Support to 1/Queens and Glasgow Highlanders.
