On this day 4th March
1791 – 52nd came up with Tippoo's Army near Bangalore.
1915 – 2nd Bn Oxf & Bucks LI - Into Trenches at CUINCHY in the afternoon in relief of 2/Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
All four companies are in trenches, 2 being in the Fire Line and the other 2 in Support very close by.
Our Right flank joined on the left of the French on the LA BASSEE road. HeadQuarters in a house (the cellar) about ½ mile in rear.
The 2/Highland Light Infantry on our Left in this section.
Casualties: 1 man Wounded
1945 – 1st Bn Oxf & Bucks LI – North West Europe
On the 4th further advances were made to Issum (0827) and in the evening A and D Companies moved on to Boxtenhof (103285) to establish a firm base for an attack by the 4th Royal Welch Fusiliers and the 1st Highland Light Infantry. Part of the supporting barrage fell short and caused casualties, including Lieutenant N. W. C. Francis, who was killed.
The carrier platoon was put under command of the 4th Royal Welch Fusiliers for this attack and one section was lost when a shell landed in the middle of it.
