D Coy relieved A Coy in outpost line as yesterday.
A Coy were withdrawn to MARQUAIX.
Enemy shelled VILLERS-FAUCON with 77cms and 5.9s in the morning.
During night 4th R BERKS provided Working Parties to dig Cruciform posts on Outpost Line.
A few 77’s were fired into Eastern edge of HAMEL during the afternoon.
Cavalry were withdrawn from VILLERS-FAUCON after dark and A Coy were sent up to take their place. At same time C Coy relieved B Coy the latter returning to billets in MARQUAIX.
A very wet and dark night. Telephones were out for several hours and communication forward entirely broke down owing to difficulty of finding forward Coys HQrs in the intense darkness. B & C were shelled during relief.
Casualties 1 OR Killed, 9 OR wounded.
2nd LIEUT VAUGHAN to hospital sick.
Ration Strength 21 Officers 658 OR.

5 Para Brigade ahead of us, meeting slight opposition.
After delay caused by further traffic complications arrived at RHADE 454508 where the Regiment spent the night. The town was subjected to considerable air-burst fire at intervals during the night. No casualties.
